The density of GRC ranges from 1.8-2.0 g/cm³, far lower than natural stone (2.6-2.8 g/cm³). This density advantage, combined with its strength, shaping flexibility, and cost characteristics, makes GRC more competitive in architectural applications. Through technical optimization, Qinglong keeps its product density stable at around 1.9 g/cm³, maximizing these advantages.
1. Density Range of GRC and Influencing Factors
The density of GRC falls within a reasonable range, balancing strength with lightweight requirements. Density range: under standard conditions, the dry density of GRC is 1.8-2.0 g/cm³, and the density of Qinglong's mass-produced products is stable at 1.9 g/cm³, with fluctuation ≤±0.05 g/cm³. Influencing factors: aggregate type (quartz sand density 2.6 g/cm³), fiber content (2%-3%, density 2.6 g/cm³), and water-binder ratio (≤0.45). By optimizing particle grading, Qinglong controls the overall density while ensuring compactness. Density-strength balance: although the density of GRC is lower than that of natural stone, its flexural strength of ≥15 MPa far exceeds that of natural stone (flexural strength 3-5 MPa), achieving “lightweight and high strength”. Qinglong's 15 mm thick GRC panels weigh only 28 kg/㎡ with a flexural strength of 22 MPa.
2. Core Advantages Compared with Natural Stone
The density advantage of GRC gives rise to multiple application values, fully surpassing natural stone. Lightweight: with a density only about 70% of natural stone, it can greatly reduce building structural loads and cut foundation and steel structure costs. The GRC curtain wall used by Qinglong for the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center (Luban Award) saved more than 25% in structural costs compared with a natural stone curtain wall. Easy construction: the lightweight property improves transportation and installation efficiency by 50% without the need for large lifting equipment. Qinglong completed the 19,800-square-meter GRC curtain wall for the Shenzhen Longhua Xiangshan Science and Technology Park with an installation period 40% shorter than that of a stone curtain wall. Flexible shaping: the low density stems from the absence of coarse aggregates, enabling GRC to achieve complex forms such as double curves, openwork, and reliefs, while natural stone, being hard and heavy, is severely limited in shaping—Qinglong's hyperbolic GRC components for the Guangxi New Media Center cannot be achieved with natural stone. Controllable cost: GRC is precast in factories with short production cycles and high material utilization (≥95%), while natural stone suffers high losses in quarrying and processing (about 30%) and rare stones are expensive. The overall cost of Qinglong GRC is 30%-50% lower than that of natural stone.
3. Other Advantages and Enterprise Practice Cases
Beyond the density-derived advantages, GRC also outperforms natural stone in durability and maintainability. Durability: GRC offers excellent freeze-thaw resistance, impermeability, and corrosion resistance, without the fissures and color variation issues of natural stone. Qinglong's GRC stone-imitation components for the Dongting Lake Museum reached 95% realism and showed no fading or cracking after 6 years of use. Maintenance cost: GRC has a smooth surface that is easy to clean and can be locally repaired when damaged, whereas natural stone is prone to color bleeding and widening fissures, making maintenance difficult—the annual maintenance cost of the GRC components in a Qinglong commercial complex is only 1/5 that of natural stone. Verified by cases: projects such as Hainan Changying Global 100 Fantasy Park and Shanghai Xinghewan have all used GRC to replace natural stone, achieving a stone-like appearance while solving the problems of heavy weight, difficult shaping, and high cost of stone, earning high recognition from clients.
