UHPC decorative components are prone to surface damage such as scratches, chipping, and color difference during production, transportation, or use. Appropriate repair methods must be selected based on the type of damage to ensure that appearance and performance meet standards after repair. Drawing on years of UHPC maintenance experience, Qinglong explains the core surface repair methods and operational specifications.
I. Minor Damage Repair: Scratch and Color Difference Treatment
For minor surface defects, refined repair solutions are adopted. Scratch repair: For scratches with a depth ≤1mm, first dry-sand them flat with 800-grit sandpaper, then wet-sand and polish with 1200-grit sandpaper, and finally apply a UHPC-specific transparent protective agent to restore surface luster; for scratches 1-3mm deep, fill with special repair mortar (a blend of UHPC powder + fine aggregate + special additives), compact and smooth after filling, then cure for 24 hours before grinding and polishing. Color difference repair: Local color difference areas are repaired with special color paste tinting; the color paste must have a color deviation of ≤ΔE2 from the original component. After application, UV curing treatment is applied to ensure long-lasting, stable color. Qinglong achieved color-difference-free repair using this method in the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park project.
II. Moderate Damage Repair: Edge Defect and Hole Repair
For edge impact damage and hole defects, the focus is on restoring structural integrity. Edge defect repair: First clean the damaged area and cut away loose parts to form regular right angles or bevels, apply a bonding agent to enhance adhesion, then fill in layers with UHPC repair material at a thickness of ≤10mm per layer, embed fine steel wire during filling for reinforcement, and after 48 hours of curing, grind and shape to ensure a natural transition with the original curved surface. Hole repair: For holes with a diameter ≤50mm, clean impurities from inside the hole, apply a bonding agent, then fill and compact with repair material in a single pass; for holes with a diameter >50mm, a steel mesh must be installed inside the hole before filling with repair material in layers, ensuring the repaired area's strength matches the original component. Areas repaired by Qinglong achieve a compressive strength of over 120MPa.
III. Severe Damage Repair: Crack and Large-Area Damage Treatment
For structural defects, a combined reinforcement and repair approach is adopted. Crack repair: For micro-cracks with a width ≤0.3mm, epoxy resin slurry is injected via high-pressure grouting to fill the interior of the crack; for cracks wider than 0.3mm, first cut a V-shaped groove (depth ≥2 times the crack width), clean it, apply a bonding agent, fill with epoxy repair material and embed carbon fiber cloth for reinforcement, then grind flat after 72 hours of curing. Large-area damage repair: When the damaged area exceeds 0.5㎡, the damaged region must be cut away and a matching UHPC panel remade, connected to the original component using mortise-and-tenon style joints, with joint areas filled with sealant to ensure waterproofing and structural stability. Qinglong successfully repaired large-area damaged components in the Shenzhen Yirui Biotech Building project.
IV. Repair Quality Control and Later-Stage Curing Essentials
Standardize the repair process to ensure long-lasting, stable repair results. Material matching principle: Repair materials must be consistent in composition with the original UHPC components to avoid secondary damage caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients. Curing process specifications: After repair, use film-covered curing or steam curing, with curing temperature controlled at 20-25℃ and humidity ≥90%; cure minor damage for 24-48 hours and severe damage for more than 7 days. Quality inspection and verification: After repair is completed, inspect surface flatness (error ≤±0.5mm), color consistency, and strength to ensure compliance with design requirements. Later-stage protection: Repaired areas require an additional 2 coats of weather-resistant protective coating to enhance UV and weathering resistance. Qinglong provides specialized repair and maintenance plans to ensure repair results last for more than 10 years.
