The external seepage of rust stains on exterior wall GRC not only affects the building's appearance but may also accelerate material aging and corrosion. It is necessary to promptly investigate the source of the rust, adopt targeted treatment solutions, and establish a long-term protection mechanism to prevent recurrence. Drawing on years of GRC maintenance experience, Qinglong explains the complete rust treatment process and its key points.
I. Precise Investigation and Identification of Rust Sources
Accurately locating the rust source is the prerequisite for effective treatment and requires combined structural and environmental analysis. Internal connector corrosion: metal connectors inside GRC without anti-corrosion treatment or with damaged anti-corrosion layers rust when exposed to water, and rust seeps through panel pores; such rust stains are mostly distributed in dots or strips. Steel bar framework corrosion: some GRC components have built-in steel bar frameworks; inadequate anti-rust treatment of the steel bars leads to rust expansion after long-term moisture exposure, causing surface cracking accompanied by rust seepage. External contamination: rust dust and industrial pollutants in the air adhere to surfaces and form pseudo rust stains when washed by rain; such stains are easy to wipe off with no penetration depth. Qinglong combines infrared detection with cross-section sampling to quickly determine the rust source type, ensuring targeted treatment.
II. Specialized Treatment Procedures for Different Types of Rust Stains
Differentiated treatment solutions are adopted for different rust sources to avoid expanding damage through blind operations. Connector corrosion treatment: remove the damaged surface GRC parts, replace them with 304 or 316 stainless steel connectors, derust and grind the corroded areas, apply anti-rust primer and topcoat, and use special repair mortar when restoring the GRC surface to ensure color consistency with the original panels. In the Sanya Yingbin Yihao project, Qinglong completely solved the connector corrosion problem with this solution. Steel bar framework corrosion treatment: severely corroded steel bars must be cut out, replaced, and re-tied, then coated with epoxy zinc-rich primer; if component strength is damaged, carbon fiber cloth reinforcement needs to be added. Surface contamination rust stains: clean with neutral rust remover combined with a high-pressure water gun, avoiding acidic cleaners that corrode the GRC surface; after cleaning, apply a protective coating to enhance stain resistance.
III. Post-Treatment Repair and Protection Reinforcement Measures
After repair, proper protective treatment is required to extend service life. Surface repair: after repairing damaged GRC parts, grinding and polishing are needed to ensure surface flatness consistent with the original panels; repair materials should be mixed with mineral pigments from the same batch to ensure a uniform appearance. Waterproof sealing reinforcement: at water-prone areas such as component joints and anchoring points, re-apply high-modulus silicone sealant and add additional waterproof layers to prevent rainwater penetration from causing secondary corrosion. Anti-corrosion coating upgrade: apply fluorocarbon anti-corrosion coatings to all metal components; in coastal high-salt-spray areas, coating thickness needs to be increased. Qinglong uses double-layer anti-corrosion coatings to improve connector corrosion resistance.
IV. Long-Term Prevention Mechanism and Daily Maintenance Recommendations
Source prevention can reduce the probability of rust seepage and lower maintenance costs. Production process control: select hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors, and built-in steel bars must be coated with epoxy; Qinglong strictly implements anti-corrosion standards in production to avoid corrosion risks at the source. Regular inspection and maintenance: inspect GRC exterior walls once every six months, focusing on checking connector areas for early signs of rust, with additional special inspections before and after the annual rainy season. Environmental adaptability optimization: for projects in coastal and industrially polluted areas, prioritize corrosion-resistant GRC formulas and apply weather-resistant fluorocarbon coatings on surfaces to form multiple protective barriers. Qinglong customizes special protection plans for high-risk environment projects, effectively reducing the probability of corrosion.
