The impermeability of GRC exterior walls directly relates to building waterproofing safety. Impermeability testing is the core means of verifying the waterproofing capability of components and must follow scientific testing methods and standard specifications to ensure accurate and reliable results. Drawing on years of quality testing experience, Qinglong explains the core testing methods and practical key points for the impermeability of GRC exterior walls.
1. Standard Laboratory Impermeability Testing Method
Laboratory testing can precisely quantify impermeability and serves as the core basis for evaluation. Using the water penetration height method, in accordance with the standard "Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products" JC/T 940-2022, 100mm×100mm×100mm standard specimens are prepared and tested after 28 days of curing; the specimen is placed in an impermeability tester, sealed, and subjected to water pressure with an initial pressure of 0.1MPa, increasing by 0.1MPa every 8 hours until water seepage occurs; the final seepage pressure and penetration height are recorded. For high-quality GRC exterior wall components, the penetration height should be ≤5mm and the impermeability grade ≥P6. Qinglong's GRC specimens achieved a measured impermeability grade of P8 or above, far exceeding the basic standard.
2. On-Site Rapid Impermeability Testing Methods
On-site testing directly reflects actual application performance and facilitates rapid troubleshooting. Water spray test method: a high-pressure water gun is used to spray the surface of the GRC exterior wall, with water pressure controlled at 0.3MPa and a spraying time of no less than 30 minutes; the inner side is observed for signs of water seepage, with no seepage indicating a pass. Post-rain observation method: within 24 hours after heavy rain, check GRC component joints, internal and external corners, anchoring points, and other leak-prone areas for dampness, water stains, or dripping; in the Pingshan High-tech Zone project in Shenzhen, Qinglong used the water spray test to quickly verify the wall's impermeability performance. Pressurized sealed chamber method: a sealed chamber is set up on the component surface, subjected to 0.2MPa water pressure for 2 hours, and the chamber is observed for seepage; this method is suitable for specialized testing of critical areas.
3. Method Selection and Operating Standards for Different Testing Scenarios
Select appropriate methods according to the testing purpose and ensure standardized operation. For factory inspection, the laboratory water penetration height method is preferred, with sampling for each batch of no less than 3% to ensure batch product conformity; during construction acceptance, the on-site water spray test is used to fully cover the exterior wall surface, with emphasis on joint areas; during service and maintenance, the post-rain observation method and localized pressurized sealed chamber method are used to regularly check for leakage risks. Regarding operating standards, laboratory testing requires ensuring specimens are tightly sealed and pressure is applied uniformly; on-site testing requires ensuring full spray coverage and sufficient observation time to avoid missing seepage points. Qinglong has formulated specialized testing work instructions to ensure a standardized testing process.
4. Test Result Analysis and Impermeability Optimization Measures
Implement targeted optimization based on test results to improve impermeability. When testing fails, analyze the cause: if it is a material issue, optimize the GRC mix formulation and increase admixture content to improve density; if it is a construction issue, reseal the joints and reinforce waterproofing at anchoring points; if it is aging during service, renew the surface sealing coating and replace aged sealant. Impermeability optimization measures include: using high-pressure vibration molding in component production to reduce porosity; ensuring sealant is fully filled during construction and adding additional waterproofing layers at joint areas; performing regular maintenance during the service stage and promptly repairing damaged coatings. Through whole-process optimization, Qinglong has achieved an impermeability test pass rate of over 99% for GRC exterior walls.
