The bulk density of lightweight GRC panels is a core indicator for measuring a material's degree of lightweighting and its application suitability. Properly controlling bulk density both reduces building loads and ensures structural strength. Clarifying its bulk density range and influencing factors is key to precise selection. Drawing on 28 years of production experience, Qinglong analyzes the bulk density standards and practical key points of lightweight GRC panels.
I. Core Bulk Density Range Specifications for Lightweight GRC Panels
According to the standard Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC) Decorative Products (JC/T940-2022), the bulk density of lightweight GRC panels ranges from 1400-1800kg/m³, far lower than ordinary concrete panels (2300-2500kg/m³). In conventional applications, lightweight GRC panels for interior partition walls have a bulk density controlled at 1400-1600kg/m³, while exterior wall cladding panels, which must balance strength with weather resistance, have a bulk density of 1600-1800kg/m³; special ultra-thin lightweight panels (thickness ≤15mm) can reach a bulk density as low as 1300kg/m³, but formula optimization is required to ensure strength compliance. The measured bulk density of Qinglong lightweight GRC panels is stable at 1450-1750kg/m³, balancing lightweighting with reliability.
II. Key Factors Affecting the Bulk Density of Lightweight GRC Panels
Bulk density control must be approached from both raw materials and production processes. Regarding raw materials, aggregate selection is central: using lightweight ceramsite, perlite, and similar materials to replace part of the quartz sand can reduce bulk density by 10%-15%. In the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center project, Qinglong achieved precise bulk density control through optimization of the ceramsite content; reducing cement content lowers bulk density, but active admixtures such as silica fume must be combined to ensure strength, with dosage verified through testing; alkali-resistant chopped glass fibres should be selected at a dosage of 3%-4%, which improves strength while avoiding excessive bulk density. Regarding processes, high-pressure vibration moulding can reduce porosity, but excessive vibration can easily cause aggregate settlement, which instead increases local bulk density, so vibration pressure must be controlled within 0.3-0.5MPa.
III. Balanced Optimization Solutions for Bulk Density and Performance
Lightweighting must be premised on performance assurance, avoiding a one-sided pursuit of low bulk density. Formula optimization: adopting a composite system of "lightweight aggregate + low water-binder ratio + high-efficiency water reducer", at a bulk density of 1500kg/m³, ensures compressive strength ≥15MPa and flexural strength ≥3MPa, meeting the requirements for non-load-bearing components; structural design: reducing material usage through ribs, openwork, and other structures—such as the lightweight GRC openwork components at Hainan Changying Universal 100 Fantasy Park, which maintain structural stability despite a 20% reduction in bulk density; surface treatment: using thin-coating processes instead of thick decorative layers to reduce the impact of surface materials on bulk density. Through multi-dimensional optimization, Qinglong achieves precise matching of bulk density and strength, adapting to the needs of different scenarios.
IV. Key Points for Bulk Density Testing and Application Selection
Strict testing and scientific selection ensure that bulk density meets standards and suits the application scenario. Testing method: use the volume method—cut standard specimens (100mm×100mm×100mm), dry them to constant weight, then calculate the bulk density, with a 100% pass rate required for sampling tests in each batch; selection principles: for interior non-load-bearing partition walls, preferentially use products with 1400-1600kg/m³ to reduce building loads; for exterior walls and semi-load-bearing areas, use products with 1600-1800kg/m³ to ensure weather resistance and strength; super high-rise projects require structural calculations, with bulk density deviation controlled within ±50kg/m³. Qinglong provides customized bulk density solutions that precisely match project load and performance requirements.
