How Does UHPC Panel Weight Vary by Thickness? Weight Parameters and Application Matching Guide

The weight of UHPC panels is linearly correlated with thickness, with significant weight differences across different thicknesses, directly affecting building load design and installation method selection. Accurately mastering weight parameters is key to ensuring project structural safety and construction efficiency. Drawing on years of product R&D experience, Qinglong analyzes weight difference patterns and application adaptation solutions.

I. Core Calculation Basis for UHPC Panel Weight

UHPC panel weight calculation uses density as the core benchmark. The density of conventional UHPC material is 2400-2500kg/m³, slightly higher than ordinary concrete (2300kg/m³), mainly due to improved aggregate compactness and increased steel fiber content. The weight calculation formula is: single panel weight (kg) = area (m²) × thickness (m) × density (kg/m³). Qinglong calculates conventional UHPC panel density at 2450kg/m³, ensuring accurate weight parameters and providing a reliable basis for structural design.

II. Weight Difference Comparison of UHPC Panels with Different Thicknesses

Weight increases regularly with every 5mm increase in thickness. Ultra-thin UHPC panels (10-20mm): 10mm thick panels weigh about 24.5kg per square meter, 20mm thick about 49kg, a weight difference of 24.5kg/㎡, suitable for load-sensitive scenarios such as indoor ceilings and lightweight partition walls; conventional thickness (25-50mm): 25mm thick weighs about 61.25kg per square meter, 50mm thick about 122.5kg, a weight difference of 61.25kg/㎡, widely used for exterior wall cladding panels and landscape components; thick panels (50-100mm): 50mm thick weighs 122.5kg per square meter, 100mm thick about 245kg, a weight difference of 122.5kg/㎡, suitable for roof cover panels and load-bearing components. In the Shanghai Astronomy Museum public art project, Qinglong precisely controlled the weight of each 30mm thick UHPC sculpture to ensure installation safety.

III. Impact of Weight Differences on Application Scenarios and Adaptation Strategies

Weight differences directly determine installation methods and structural requirements. Ultra-thin panels (≤20mm): lightweight, can be installed by dry hanging or adhesive bonding without additional structural reinforcement, suitable for old building renovation and interior decoration; conventional panels (25-50mm): installation methods must be selected based on weight—25-30mm thick panels can use four-point hanging, while 30-50mm thick panels require additional support points or steel frame assisted installation; thick panels (>50mm): heavy, requiring combined installation with embedded connectors + steel brackets, with sufficient load-bearing capacity reserved in structural design. For the 50mm thick UHPC panels on the roof of the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park, steel frame support ensures installation stability.

IV. Technical Solutions and Precautions for Weight Optimization

Scientific optimization balances weight and performance. Material optimization: replacing part of the quartz sand with lightweight aggregates in non-load-bearing areas can reduce density by 5%-8% and correspondingly reduce weight; structural optimization: using hollow-out, ribbed panel and other designs to reduce material usage while ensuring strength—for the 50mm thick hollow-out UHPC panels at a hotel in Ouargla, Algeria, the hollow-out rate exceeds 50%, reducing weight by 40%; process control: precisely controlling panel thickness tolerance to avoid weight redundancy caused by excessive thickness—Qinglong controls panel thickness tolerance within ±0.5mm. Precautions: weight optimization must be premised on meeting strength requirements; excessive pursuit of lightweighting must not lead to performance degradation, and optimization solutions must be verified through testing.
