The fidelity of the stone-imitating texture on GRC decorative boards directly affects the visual quality of a building's exterior. High-standard replication requires balancing visual effects with tactile experience. Clarifying fidelity standards and testing methods is key to ensuring stone-like effects. Drawing on extensive experience from numerous stone-imitation projects, Qinglong analyzes the core standards and implementation paths.
I. Core Evaluation Standards for Stone Texture Fidelity
Fidelity standards cover three major dimensions: visual, tactile, and detail. Visual similarity must be ≥95%, with texture orientation and color distribution consistent with natural stone and color difference ΔE≤2.0; Qinglong's GRC stone-imitating components for the Dongting Lake Museum passed acceptance under this standard. In terms of touch, surface roughness must differ from natural stone by ≤0.5μm, with no obvious traces of artificial carving. For detail fidelity, natural features of stone texture such as cracks, holes, and color transitions must be precisely replicated, with a simulation degree of over 95%. In the Panzhihua, Sichuan project, the fidelity of the chiseled stone-face effect on GRC curtain wall panels reached as high as 96%, earning high recognition from the owner. In addition, texture consistency among components of the same batch must be ≥90% to avoid obvious differences.
II. Analysis of Key Factors Affecting Fidelity
Fidelity is jointly influenced by molds, materials, and craftsmanship. Mold precision is the core: using 3D scanning technology to create prototype stone molds with surface precision errors of ≤0.2mm, Qinglong achieved precise replication of natural stone textures in the Singapore Defence Service Centre project. In terms of materials, natural quartz aggregates and mineral pigments are selected, with pigment content precisely controlled at 3%-5% to ensure color consistency with stone. In terms of craftsmanship, hand carving combined with mechanical polishing simulates natural stone textures and avoids rigid patterns; in the Qiangwei Garden project in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, this craftsmanship made the stone-imitating texture more natural and lifelike.
III. Technical Optimization Solutions for Improving Fidelity
High-fidelity replication is achieved through full-process optimization. Mold making adopts the combined technology of "3D scanning + CNC machining" to reproduce natural stone textures at a 1:1 ratio, and a special release agent is applied to the mold surface to ensure complete texture transfer. Material formulations are optimized by adding natural stone powder to enhance texture similarity, while pigments are precisely blended using a layered color-matching method to simulate stone color transitions. Surface treatment adopts sandblasting, polishing, and other processes to enhance tactile realism; in the Ningbo International Conference Center landscape project, Qinglong stabilized stone-imitation fidelity at over 95% through this solution. In addition, a stone texture sample library has been established to facilitate precise matching of different stone varieties.
IV. Fidelity Testing and Acceptance Specifications
Strict testing ensures that stone-imitation effects meet standards. Visual testing uses a comparison method, placing GRC components side by side with natural stone samples and detecting color differences with a professional colorimeter. Tactile testing uses a roughness gauge, with no fewer than 3 testing points per square meter. Detail testing uses a magnifying glass to observe texture details and assess the degree of replication of natural features. For batch acceptance, 10% of components are randomly sampled for testing, with a required pass rate of 100%. Qinglong has established a dedicated testing process to ensure that every stone-imitating GRC decorative board meets fidelity standards, providing assurance for the quality of building exteriors.
