UHPC double-curved wall panels, with their complex and dynamic shapes, have become the top choice for high-end building facades, but achieving such complex shapes depends on an excellent material foundation. Drawing on 28 years of R&D experience in special-shaped components, Qinglong analyzes the core material system supporting the forming of UHPC double-curved wall panels, revealing the material code behind complex shapes.
1. High-Strength Matrix Materials: The Core Support for Shape Stability
The high-strength UHPC matrix is the fundamental guarantee for achieving complex double-curved surfaces. High-grade, low-hydration-heat cement is selected and combined with active admixtures such as quartz sand, silica fume, and ultrafine mineral powder to form dense hydration products, with compressive strength reaching 120-180MPa and tensile strength ≥8MPa. These excellent mechanical properties ensure that double-curved shapes are not prone to cracking or deformation during forming and use. The water-binder ratio is precisely controlled between 0.20-0.22; the lower the water-binder ratio, the higher the matrix density and the stronger the shape stability. Qinglong's dedicated double-curved UHPC matrix, tested by a third party, has a porosity of ≤3%, providing a solid foundation for complex shapes.
2. High-Performance Fiber Reinforcement System: The Key to Crack Resistance and Shaping
The fiber reinforcement system endows UHPC with excellent crack resistance and shaping capability. Steel fibers and polypropylene fibers are used for composite reinforcement. Micro-wire steel fibers with a length of 12-18mm and a diameter of 0.2-0.3mm are selected at a dosage of 2%-3%, inhibiting crack propagation through fiber bridging and improving material toughness. Polypropylene fibers are added at 0.1%-0.2% to enhance the material's impact resistance and prevent damage caused by excessive local stress during forming. Uniform fiber dispersion is critical: Qinglong adopts high-speed mixing + ultrasonic dispersion technology to ensure fibers are evenly distributed in the matrix without agglomeration. The 3-meter-high double-curved UHPC sculpture at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum adopted this fiber system, featuring smooth shapes with no cracks.
3. Dedicated Admixture System: Optimizing Forming Performance
Dedicated admixtures provide a guarantee for forming complex double-curved surfaces. A polycarboxylate-based high-performance superplasticizer is selected at a dosage of 1%-2%, improving material fluidity at low water-binder ratios with a spread of over 600mm, making it easy to fill complex mold cavities. Retarders precisely control setting time, adjusting the initial setting time to 6-8 hours to allow sufficient time for double-curved forming operations and avoid shape failure caused by premature setting. Defoamers remove air bubbles inside the slurry, reducing surface pinholes and internal voids after forming and ensuring a smooth, fine double-curved surface. In the double-curved wall panel project for the Guangxi New Media Center, Qinglong achieved a first-time forming pass rate of 98% for complex curved surfaces through admixture system optimization.
4. Supporting Auxiliary Materials: Ensuring Shape Precision and Durability
Auxiliary materials provide all-around support for double-curved shapes. Mold materials include high-precision steel molds or GRP molds; steel mold surfaces are polished with a precision error of ≤0.2mm/m, ensuring accurate double-curved curvature, while GRP molds are lightweight and flexible in shaping, suited to complex curved mold requirements. A dedicated water-based release agent is selected, with low adhesion to the UHPC matrix, allowing easy demolding without contaminating the surface. Penetrating sealers are chosen as surface protection materials to improve the weather resistance and wear resistance of double-curved wall panels and prevent aging of complex-shaped areas caused by rainwater erosion. Through a complete supporting material system, Qinglong achieves precise forming of various complex double-curved UHPC wall panels, providing unlimited possibilities for bringing architectural creativity to life.
