Do Installation Methods Differ for GRC Components of Different Weights? Weight-Classified Installation Solutions and Safety Standards

GRC components of different weights vary significantly in installation methods, and appropriate schemes must be selected based on weight classification to avoid component damage or safety accidents caused by improper installation. Scientific classified installation is the key to ensuring construction safety and quality. Drawing on 28 years of installation experience, Qinglong analyzes the key points and standards of classified installation.

I. Installation Methods for Light GRC Components (≤50 kg/piece)

The installation of light components centers on convenience and efficiency, using manual assisted installation. Small hangers (such as L-type stainless steel hangers) or embedded bolts are used for connection, with hanger load capacity ≥8kN to meet the load requirements of light components; installation involves manual handling by 2-3 workers, assisted by simple lifting tools (such as small electric hoists), with lifting speed ≤1m/min to avoid collisions; installation accuracy is controlled within ±2mm, component spacing is uniform, and sealant is fully filled. In the Zhongshan Kaiyin Xincheng residential project, GRC window surrounds and moldings under 50kg were all installed this way, achieving high efficiency and controllable safety. Installing such components requires no large equipment, making it suitable for routine decorative areas of residential and commercial buildings.

II. Installation Methods for Medium GRC Components (50-100 kg/piece)

Medium components require small lifting equipment and enhanced safety protection. Electric hoists or small truck cranes are used for hoisting, with dedicated clamps as lifting gear fitted with anti-slip rubber pads to avoid damaging component surfaces; connectors are M12-M14 stainless steel countersunk bolts or custom hangers, with no fewer than 6 connectors per component to ensure even load distribution; during installation, a dedicated person directs operations, and a warning zone is set up below to prohibit personnel passage; as the component approaches its installation position, a manual hoist is used for fine positioning to avoid forced collisions; temporary fixing is carried out immediately after installation, and lifting gear is removed only after all connectors are installed and tightened. In the Nanning Jiahecheng project, 80kg GRC relief components were safely installed this way.

III. Installation Methods for Heavy GRC Components (>100 kg/piece)

Heavy component installation requires professional equipment and refined schemes to ensure safety and stability. Truck cranes or crawler cranes are used for hoisting, and the crane's rated lifting capacity must be at least 2.5 times the component weight; the spreader beam is made of structural steel to distribute hoisting stress; a multi-point hanging method is adopted with hanger spacing ≤500mm to ensure balanced loading of the component and avoid local compression deformation; before installation, BIM technology is used to simulate hoisting paths and optimize hoisting sequences to avoid interference with surrounding structures; full-time safety officers and technical personnel are assigned to monitor the entire hoisting process, installation accuracy is controlled within ±1mm, and pull-out tests are conducted after tightening to ensure load-bearing compliance. In the installation of 120kg GRC roof components at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong achieved zero-accident construction through this scheme.

IV. Key Safety Control Points for Installation by Weight Classification

Regardless of component weight, installation safety control must run through the entire process. Personnel qualifications: hoisting operators must be certified for the job, wear safety helmets, safety harnesses and other protective equipment, and receive regular safety training; equipment inspection: before hoisting, check the condition of cranes, lifting gear and connectors, and the use of damaged equipment is strictly prohibited; environmental control: hoisting operations are prohibited when wind force exceeds level 6, on rainy days, or in high-temperature scorching weather; quality acceptance: after installation, acceptance is conducted by weight classification, with 10% sampling inspection for light components and full inspection for medium and heavy components, ensuring firm installation and accurate positioning. Through classified control, Qinglong has achieved zero safety accidents in the installation of GRC components of all weights, ensuring smooth project progress.
