UHPC curtain walls in humid regions are vulnerable to rainwater penetration and moisture attack, requiring multiple lines of waterproofing defense that combine material properties with structural design to ensure long-term waterproofing performance. Drawing on project experience in humid southern China, Qinglong analyzes core waterproofing technologies and practical solutions.
1. Material-Level Optimization of the Waterproofing Foundation
Waterproofing performance is enhanced at the material source: the UHPC mix adopts a low water-binder ratio (0.22-0.25) with silica fume and ultra-fine aggregate added to increase density, keeping porosity ≤5% and blocking moisture penetration paths. Qinglong's dedicated UHPC formula for humid environments achieves water absorption ≤3%; the surface is coated with a penetrating waterproofing agent that forms a hydrophobic protective film with a contact angle ≥110°, penetrating 5-10mm into the component to enhance overall waterproofing while preserving UHPC's natural texture; stainless steel connectors with anti-corrosion surface treatment are selected to prevent rust from widening connection gaps and causing leaks.
2. Core Waterproofing Design at the Structural Level
Joint waterproofing adopts a "double seals + drainage channel" design: the first line uses neutral silicone weather-resistant sealant with a joint width ≥15mm and thickness ≥8mm; the second sets up a concealed drainage channel with a width ≥20mm and slope ≥2% to promptly discharge infiltrated rainwater. Qinglong adopted this solution in the Nanning Liyuan Hotel project, effectively resolving joint leakage problems in humid regions; waterproof baffles and water-stop gaskets are added at nodes to prevent rainwater intrusion through the connectors, with stainless steel waterproof baffles fitting tightly against the UHPC panels; UHPC panels are installed by dry-hanging with a 50-80mm ventilation cavity reserved behind them to promote moisture discharge, reduce condensation buildup, and prevent dampness behind panels from causing mold.
3. Waterproofing Quality Control During Construction
Before construction, ensure UHPC panel surfaces are dry and clean, free of dust, oil, and moisture, to avoid compromising sealant adhesion; sealant application requires an ambient temperature of 5-35°C, should be avoided on rainy days and in high-humidity weather (relative humidity >85%), and requires curing for more than 7 days after application; keel installation must guarantee levelness and verticality to prevent uneven panel joints and waterproofing weak points caused by tilted keels; drainage hole positions must be precise to ensure smooth drainage, with no fewer than 2 drainage holes per panel, each with a diameter ≥10mm; after construction, clear debris from the drainage holes to prevent blockage.
4. Waterproofing Maintenance During Operation
Establish a regular waterproofing inspection system, checking the sealant condition, drainage systems, and node waterproofing every 6 months; promptly replace aged or cracked sealant and clear blocked drainage holes; conduct a comprehensive waterproofing test annually using high-pressure water spray testing to check for leaks—Qinglong identified and repaired localized leaks in a timely manner through this testing in the Guiyang Huaguoyuan project; re-inspect the waterproofing agent on UHPC panel surfaces every 3-5 years and reapply as necessary to enhance waterproofing performance. Through full-cycle waterproofing maintenance, Qinglong keeps the leakage rate of its UHPC curtain walls in humid regions below 0.1%, ensuring long-term safety in use.
