Demountable connections for GRC curtain walls improve the convenience of later maintenance and adapt to building renovation needs. The core lies in designing separable connection joints that balance connection firmness with ease of disassembly. Scientific selection of connection types and structural design is the key to achieving demountable functionality. Drawing on 28 years of full-chain practical experience, Qinglong analyzes the core technologies and application solutions.
1. Bolt-Type Demountable Connection: Universal Core Solution
Bolt-type demountable connections fasten GRC components to connectors with stainless steel bolts; during disassembly, the component can be removed simply by loosening the bolts, making this the most widely used solution. Connectors take forms such as angle brackets and support arms, with bolt holes or slots pre-reserved in the components. Stainless steel hex socket bolts are selected, paired with anti-loosening washers to ensure firm connections with a pull-out resistance ≥10kN. Disassembly requires only special tools and causes no damage to the components or the main structure. In the Zhongshan Agile Fandeng project, Qinglong adopted bolt-type connections to install GRC exterior wall components, and during later maintenance a single component can be removed in ≤30 minutes. This method features a simple structure, convenient disassembly, and strong reusability. It is suitable for conventional flat-panel curtain walls and small to medium-sized irregular components, especially in areas of commercial buildings subject to frequent renovation.
2. Clip-Type Demountable Connection: Specialized Solution for Rapid Assembly and Removal
Clip-type demountable connections achieve rapid installation and removal of components through custom clip structures, requiring no tools or only simple tools, with extremely high efficiency. The clips are made of stainless steel or high-strength engineering plastic and are divided into male clips (component side) and female clips (keel side). During installation, the clips lock into place through elastic deformation; during disassembly, pressing the release device separates them. In the atrium GRC balustrade project of Jiaxing Zhongguancun Shopping Center, Qinglong's clip-type connections achieved component removal and installation in ≤10 minutes per piece. This method offers fast assembly and removal as well as simple operation; its drawback is limited load-bearing capacity (suitable for components weighing ≤20kg per piece). It is suitable for interior decorative curtain walls, lightweight exterior wall panels, and temporary display components, especially commercial spaces that require frequent changes of decorative patterns.
3. Hanger-Type Demountable Connection: Solution for High-End Curtain Walls
Hanger-type demountable connections combine dry-hanging technology with demountable design, making them suitable for high-end GRC curtain walls while balancing aesthetics and practicality. Custom demountable hangers are used, with T-shaped slots pre-reserved in the components. The hangers are fixed to the keel with bolts, and after installation the components are locked with positioning pins; during disassembly, simply remove the positioning pins and slide the components out. In the Shanghai Xinghewan project, Qinglong's hanger-type connections achieved damage-free removal and replacement of GRC moldings. This method offers a clean appearance (no exposed bolts), convenient disassembly, and no damage to components; its drawback is the high machining precision required for the hangers (dimensional tolerance ≤±0.5mm). It is suitable for facade curtain walls of high-end residences and commercial complexes, especially projects with high appearance requirements and needs for later maintenance.
4. Design Essentials and Application Precautions for Demountable Connections
Demountable connection design must balance firmness with convenience. Key points include: connectors must undergo anti-corrosion treatment (stainless steel or hot-dip galvanizing) to ensure they do not rust or seize during long-term use; positioning and anti-fall devices must be provided to prevent components from falling during disassembly—Qinglong equips all demountable connections with anti-fall steel wire ropes; and sufficient operating space must be reserved to facilitate tool operation and component handling, with operating space ≥100mm. Application precautions: regularly check the fastening condition of connection joints and conduct comprehensive maintenance every 2 years; protect finished components during removal to avoid collision damage; and design connectors and components as matched sets to ensure interchangeability and facilitate later spare part replacement. Through standardized design and strict control, Qinglong ensures that demountable GRC curtain walls meet safety requirements while enhancing the flexibility of later operation and maintenance.
