Special-shaped GRC curtain walls, with their complex shapes and varied curved surfaces, are far more difficult to control in terms of installation errors than conventional curtain walls, and precisely managing the error range is core to ensuring both appearance and structural safety. Clarifying industry standards and practical control values, combined with advanced technical means, is essential to achieving perfect installation. Drawing on 28 years of experience in special-shaped projects, Qinglong explains the key points of error control.
1. Core Control Standards for Installation Errors of Special-shaped GRC Curtain Walls
According to the "Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement (GRC)" (JGJ/T423-2018), installation errors of special-shaped GRC curtain walls must strictly follow graded control standards. Flatness error: surface flatness of a single component ≤2mm/m, overall curtain wall flatness ≤5mm/10m; facade verticality error ≤3mm/m, full-height verticality error ≤H/1000 (H is the curtain wall height) and ≤20mm; joint gap error: allowable deviation of joint width between adjacent components ±1mm, height difference ≤0.5mm. Qinglong has set stricter internal control standards for high-end landmark projects. For example, for the double-curved GRC curtain wall of the Guangxi New Media Center, flatness error is controlled at ≤1.5mm/m and joint height difference at ≤0.3mm, ensuring smooth and seamless curved surfaces.
2. Key Error Control Points for Different Types of Special-shaped Components
The core of error control for double-curved surface components lies in surface fit. 3D laser scanning is used for inspection, with deviation between the actual surface and the design model ≤±3mm. In the Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1 project, Qinglong applied this standard to ensure that each double-curved panel fits precisely. For openwork special-shaped components, the focus is on controlling opening position errors: opening center offset ≤2mm and opening dimension deviation ≤±1mm, to avoid affecting both decorative effect and structural load-bearing. For curved linear components, curvature error ≤1mm/m and straightness error ≤2mm/m, ensuring smooth and natural lines. For complex special-shaped combined components, the density of key point inspection should be increased, with no fewer than 3 inspection points per square meter, to fully cover error-risk areas.
3. Precise Control Technologies and Practices for Installation Errors
Advanced technical means are the key to error control and must be managed throughout the entire process of measurement, positioning, and adjustment. Using BIM + 3D laser scanning technology, the installation process is simulated in advance to precisely locate embedded points, with embedded steel plate position error ≤±2mm. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, Qinglong achieved precise embedded positioning through this technology. During installation, a smart total station is used to monitor component positions in real time, with a data verification performed each time a component is installed; adjustments are made immediately whenever deviations exceed limits. Special adjustment supports are provided, enabling fine adjustment in three directions (horizontal ±5mm, vertical ±3mm) to ensure precise component placement. For oversized special-shaped components, a segmental installation and overall calibration mode is adopted to reduce accumulated errors. In a cultural landmark project in Shanghai, Qinglong used this method to keep the overall installation error within 10mm.
4. Error Exceedance Handling and Quality Traceability Mechanism
A complete error handling process must be established to prevent non-conforming installation from affecting overall quality. Minor exceedance (deviation within 1.2 times the standard): correct through mechanical grinding, shim adjustment, and similar methods, with grinding depth ≤3mm; re-inspection is required after adjustment to confirm compliance. Severe exceedance (deviation exceeding 1.2 times the standard): dismantle and reinstall the component, replacing it if necessary. Qinglong implements a "zero tolerance" policy to ensure installation accuracy meets standards. A quality traceability system is established: installation records, error data, and adjustment details for each component are fully archived for future operation and maintenance reference. Through strict implementation of standards and technical control, Qinglong's installation pass rate for special-shaped GRC curtain walls remains stable above 99%, delivering multiple industry benchmark projects.
