Giving old structures new life requires precise measures, and GRC renovation must balance safety, durability, and aesthetic unity. As existing buildings age, GRC components installed in their early years often develop problems such as aging cracks, surface weathering, and loose anchoring, which not only affect the building's appearance but also pose hidden safety hazards. As a leading enterprise with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC field, Qinglong Group, drawing on experience from hundreds of renovation projects, has developed a full-process technical system covering inspection, repair, and acceptance, providing professional support for renewing GRC components on existing buildings.

#Preliminary Inspection: Precisely Diagnosing GRC Component Defects The prerequisite for renovation is a comprehensive grasp of the components' current condition. Qinglong adopts a dual diagnosis model of "non-destructive testing + on-site survey." In the auditorium renovation project of the American International School of Guangzhou, ultrasonic testing was used to examine the internal fiber distribution of GRC components, the rebound method was employed to evaluate the degree of strength deterioration, and drone aerial photography was combined to detect hidden defects in high-altitude components. Meanwhile, with reference to the original design drawings and material test reports, defect archives were established for the components, clarifying the causes and scope of influence of cracking, detachment, corrosion, and other problems, providing a scientific basis for formulating renovation plans.

#Substrate Treatment: Building a Solid Foundation for GRC Renovation The quality of substrate treatment directly determines the durability of the renovation results. Qinglong develops specialized plans for different defect types: for components with crack widths ≤0.3mm, epoxy resin grouting is used for sealing; for cracks larger than 0.3mm, alkali-resistant glass fiber mesh is embedded for reinforced repair. In the GRC carved panel renovation of the Liyuan Hotel in Nanning, high-pressure water jets were used to remove the weathered surface layer and contaminants, and a bonding agent was applied to strengthen the adhesion between new and old materials, ensuring that the renovated layer and the original components form a solid integral whole. In addition, the anchoring system was inspected as a priority: corroded anchors were replaced, and stainless steel connectors were adopted to enhance corrosion resistance.

#Renovation Techniques: Matching Original Materials with Upgraded Optimization GRC renovation must achieve performance upgrades while preserving the building's original style. Qinglong uses alkali-resistant glass fibers and low-alkali cement of the same quality as the original components, and through color-matching technology makes the renovated areas visually uniform with surrounding components. In the Third-Front Construction culture and tourism project in Panzhihua, Sichuan, the simulation fidelity reached over 95%. To meet the energy-saving needs of existing buildings, insulation layers can be composited during renovation to integrate decoration and thermal insulation. Modular operations were adopted during construction to reduce on-site wet work and minimize the impact on normal building use—for example, the renovation of the Qiangwei Garden project in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, was completed in only 45 days.

#Acceptance Standards: Dual Safeguards for Renovation Quality Acceptance of renovation works must consider both appearance and performance indicators. Qinglong follows the "Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC)": in terms of appearance, surfaces are required to be flat with no obvious color difference, and no visually detectable traces after crack repair; in terms of performance, flexural strength tests, freeze-thaw resistance tests, and other inspections ensure that component strength is not lower than the original design standard. At the same time, a quality assurance system is established to provide after-sales maintenance services of no less than 5 years for renovation projects, with regular inspections ensuring long-term stability.

Renovating GRC components on existing buildings is a systematic project that must balance safety, durability, and economy. Supported by full-chain technical capabilities, Qinglong Group maintains control throughout the whole process from inspection and diagnosis to construction and acceptance, giving old GRC components renewed vitality and providing reliable technical solutions for urban renewal projects.
