Anti-rust treatment is the key to longevity for connections between GRC and steel structures; detailed protection builds a solid foundation of safety. The connection points between GRC curtain walls and steel structures are prone to corrosion because metal contacts concrete and both are exposed to the natural environment, which affects connection strength and the service life of the curtain wall. As a Qinglong GRC manufacturer that values detail and quality, and drawing on the practice of Luban Award projects such as the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center, we explain the core anti-rust treatment methods in detail.
#Core Method 1: Select corrosion-resistant materials to eliminate risk at the source Material selection is the foundation of anti-rust treatment. Qinglong gives priority to highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel (such as 316 stainless steel) for connectors, bolts, and other components; its resistance to salt spray and humid corrosion far exceeds that of ordinary steel, making it suitable for all types of environments, especially coastal areas. For steel structure keels, hot-dip galvanizing is applied, with galvanized layer thickness meeting industry standards, forming an effective protective layer that blocks corrosive media from contacting the steel. In the Hainan Poly Peninsula No. 1 project, all GRC curtain wall to steel structure connections used 316 stainless steel connectors combined with hot-dip galvanized keels, showing no obvious corrosion after years of use.
#Core Method 2: Strengthen surface protection to block corrosion paths In addition to selecting corrosion-resistant materials, surface protection treatment further enhances anti-rust performance. Qinglong applies multiple anti-corrosion treatments to connectors: first, rust removal to eliminate the surface oxide layer; then, application of specialized anti-corrosion primer and topcoat to form a dual protective film; for exposed connection nodes, anti-corrosion protective covers are added to shield against wind, sun, and rain. Meanwhile, elastic anti-corrosion gaskets are installed where GRC panels contact the steel structure, which reduces friction damage and prevents moisture penetration that leads to corrosion. The Guangzhou Dongzhu Shangdu Commercial City GRC cladding panel project ensured long-term rust prevention at multi-point hanging connection areas through multiple surface protection measures.
#Core Method 3: Optimize joint construction to reduce corrosion triggers Scientific joint structural design can reduce the risk of corrosion. Qinglong sets up drainage channels at connection nodes to prevent rainwater from accumulating at connection points and to shorten the time moisture stays; adopts an "upper-over-lower" installation method to prevent rainwater from backing up into connection nodes; and fills joint gaps with highly weather-resistant sealant to block moisture, dust, and other corrosive media from entering. In addition, inspection openings are reserved to facilitate later periodic inspection and maintenance, so that corrosion can be dealt with promptly once found. In the Shanghai Xinghewan GRC project, through optimized joint construction and regular maintenance, the connection areas have remained in good condition over the long term, with no safety hazards caused by corrosion.
Anti-rust treatment for the connection of GRC curtain walls and steel structures is a systematic project that must be approached from multiple dimensions, including materials, surface protection, and structural design. With strict material selection, mature protection techniques, and scientific joint design, Qinglong provides long-lasting anti-rust protection for connection areas. Today, as requirements for building durability keep rising, professional anti-rust treatment capability will become a core competitive strength of GRC manufacturers, ensuring the long-term safe and stable use of curtain walls.
